Meeting 6, Spring Semester 2012

Not addressed in the meeting minutes are two dates that we decided on by popular vote during the meeting of when we will be attending the Como Zoo and the Science Museum to view the Pirates exhibit.

The Como Zoo field trip will be Monday March 12th at 10am.  Students will be responsible for transporting themselves to and from the museum but please be encouraged to share rides and ask for carpool options.

The Science Museum of Minnesota field trip will be held Saturday March 24th and we will plan on meeting there at 6pm, at the map on the ground in the entrance way outside of the gift shop.  Again, students will be responsible for transporting themselves to and from the museum but please be encouraged to share rides and ask for carpool options.

Again, to get things rolling on the symposium it would be great to get some more involvement by students willing to present.  The club will be asking that all presenters commit in the next coming weeks so we can plan the time accordingly and print programs and begin advertising; we will notify you of the deadline.  We have also decided that our post-symposium celebration will be held at Kramarczuk's Eastern European Deli in Northeast Minneapolis, 215 E Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55414, we will be meeting there at 6pm.

We will be beginning a new session of entertainment at next weeks meeting.  You can find us at CLA 125 at 2:30 PM.

Meeting 4 Spring Semester 2012

Hello Anthropology Club Members,

Below you will find the meeting minutes from the last meeting, held on 2/6/12 at 2:30.  As always, our meetings are held every Monday at 2:30 in CLA 125.  The meetings usually last an hour, occasionally longer if we are involved in entertainment or heated discussions.  Our officers meetings are held weekly meeting in our club office at 1:30pm, (CC 225), all officers are expected to attend or communicate their expected absence.

We are still awaiting responses from the doodle survey sent out with the last club email.  Many of you may have a junk mail filter that does not allow an email with a link to go to your inbox, please check your junk mail folder if you have not received this.  The last meeting minutes had two doodle survey links within the email, one for a date to attend the Como Zoo and one for a date to attend the Science Museum Pirates exhibit.  Pending information discussed at the last meeting, the AC may attend Pirates on February 22nd at 7pm.  A future email will confirm or deny this date.

The AC symposium planning is in the works.   The date will be April 20th beginning at noon.  We are reserving two rooms for presentations/posters, etc. We have started a sign-up for student presenters.  Please contact a club officer or Dr. Mallery if you would like to participate.

The AC has also decided to joint-host Stress Relief Day with the Veterans Club per their invitation to our club.  Our specific involvement has not yet been decided.

Please join us at the next meeting, we will be partaking in some entertainment and enjoying some food.

Additionally, our first Officer's Meeting with new elected officials was held February 6 at 1:30PM in our club office; CC225.  All officers are expected to attend weekly officers meetings.

Proposed Logo

Here is our logo mock-up thus far.  Focus on the four main images in the middle, the globe; representing cultural anthropology could be replaced with the images below or possibly a mask or another idea.  Some phonetic image such as the "ae" combo or schwa, (upside down "e"), could replace the sound waves icon.

Any thoughts or input are appreciated.  There are some other ideas we are tossing around including a globe within a compass.

Post your comments below, the proposed deadline is Wednesday April 12th.

Meeting 6:
Here’s some highlights from the April 11, 2011 meeting.
A study group as well as tutors in CC231 will be available to Anthropology students until the end of the semester Mondays from 4-6pm and Thursdays from 11-1pm.  If these hours are not in agreement with your schedule, please contact Joe Crowe or Dr. Mallery for additional information or individual tutoring arrangements.
There will be no Anthropology Club meeting on May 9th, instead we will be having our celebratory dinner at Thanh Vi in Brooklyn Park.  Please join us if you can.  This will be the kick off for our once monthly dinner.
There will be a vote/discussion posted on the blog regarding our logo.  If you wish to have input or feedback, please post your thoughts and ideas on the blog.  There will be our thumbnail idea posted there.  We plan on finalizing the idea by Wednesday 4/13 so the deadline for input is then.
Additionally, the MIA fieldtrip poll will close on Wednesday if you care to attend, please respond to the poll by then.
Our “What is Anthropology?” week will be happening April 25th-28th from 11am-1pm in the Campus Center.  We still need help and contributions in the form of games, prizes and handiwork.  Please email Kat if you have ideas or can donate prizes, supplies or time.
