Atlatl

For those of you staring blankly when we discussed atlatl's in the Anthropology Club meeting today, I think this video is an excellent summary of what and atlatal does and why it is so exciting!

First Meeting Notes

Our first meeting was held today, additionally, we received our room assignment.  Our subsequent meetings will be held weekly in 231CC, Mondays at 3:30pm.  Students met each other and talked about their anthropology experiences and ideas for the club, under the advisement of Dr. Silas Mallery.

Katie Kowalski and Jamie Martel showed initiative in assuming the roles and responsibilities of Representative to the Student Senate and Alternate Representative, respectively.  The Anthropology Club commends their enthusiasm and commitment.  Katie will be representing the Club at the March 30th Student Senate meeting.  Kelly will be representing the Club for the March 9th meeting, her collaboration is additionally appreciated.

The Club has proposed it's first event, a field trip to the Como Zoo to view and learn about the primates.  In the democratic nature of the club, we are requesting that students submit their preferred day to attend the zoo from the given dates, (bear in mind that the zoo's spring hours are 10am-4pm):

Sunday, March 20th
Sunday, March 27th
Wednesday, March 23rd
Wednesday, March 30th

Please email Kat with your vote, or vote on the poll in the margin.  The final decision will be made based on the majority vote at the  March 7th meeting and announced thereafter.  Carpools will be available for those who require transportation.

Plans are also in the works to attend the King Tut exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota.  For funding reasons, also email Kat if you are interested in attending this event so a general count of interested people is available.  You can also vote in the poll in the margin for this proposed event.

Thanks to everyone who made it to the first meeting of the Anthropology Club, we hope to all of you and more can attend next time!

The Real Pliocene Hominin

Here's a video, just for fun.  I found it while studying for physical anthropology, er, procrastinating that is.  If nothing else, it may help you remember the names of ancient hominin ancestors!
